SCOUTS’ OWN CHAPEL

THE Morecambe and Heysham and District Boy Scouts Association held the inaugural " Scouts Own " service at the new camp chapel, built at their Silverdale Camp Site on Sunday. (11th April, 1965).

This open air chapel, complete with seats made from the trees around the camp site and altar built from the rock on the camp, was made by the local B.P. Scout Guild members. Daffodils were growing from the front of the altar and round the sides of the chapel area.

Mr. M. Melling (District Commissioner), asked for special remembrance for Mr. T. W, Helme (Lancaster), a late County Commissioner, whose bequest made the camp site possible. He also thanked the B.P. Scout Guild for their grand effort in building the chapel site for the camp.

Scoutmaster Mr. A. Mortimer led the singing of hymns. Miss M. Gray (District Cubmaster) and Mr. N. Perryman read the lessons. Prayers were said by Mr. Melling.

Scoutmaster the Rev. A. S. Else stressed that a camp is not a scout camp without an altar and asked all boys to make use of it when in camp, and always to give their all to God.

Parents and friends and B.P. Guild members attended the service.
