YL Programme 2012

Young Leaders were challenged to plan a night around the theme of ‘Newspaper’. After coming up with various activities they competed against each other to create the tallest tower from one newspaper and a roll of sellotape.

Young Leaders meet on ‘single digit’ Sunday’s at Trust Medical (on the prom) between 5pm and 7pm. Please check the programme above.

Current Young Leaders are welcome, as well as anyone who is interested in joining as a Young Leader.

14 Young Leaders spent the weekend entertaining cubs, beavers and scouts at Silverhelme, 11^th to 13^th November.

The camp, which was planned entirely by the young leaders themselves, had a real focus on awards.  The cubs (Silverdale) and beavers (1^st Warton) that attended the event achieved their Outdoor Challenge Awards.  The explorers worked to gain their International Partnership Award, as well as mission badges.  For those explorers with enough nights away, they also achieved their scouting skills activity award.

The weekend began with scouts from Warton and Kirby Lonsdale attending to play a wide game, followed by lamp making.

The Saturday morning Beaver programme consisted of games, including traffic lights, dodgeball and beans and three outdoor activities: winter tree and leaf identification, a blind trail and tracking.  The afternoon was spent entertaining cubs for three hours.  The programme was made up of a variety of games, crafts (including lantern making) and a number of outdoor activities and skills, including tracking, treasure hunt, blind trail, tree identification, erecting a tent and outdoor games.

Saturday evening saw the explorers run an inter-unit competition which was themed on groups of refugee’s trying to escape persecution.  The explorers had to navigate around the local area, taking on various challenges as they went, including shelter building, fire lighting, medical emergencies, health and hygiene, supporting weaker team members, food and hydration and lighting.

The weekend closed with the young leaders all attending the Silverdale Remembrance Service with the Silverdale Scout Group.

The explorers planned the entire menu themselves and did all the cooking and housekeeping.  The explorer programme completed activities in a number of programme zones including attitudes and beliefs, outdoors and adventure, service, physical and global.

16th Morecambe - winners of the Crew Challenge 2011

Congratulations go to members from 16th Morecambe on an excellent performance and on gaining 1st place in this prestigious County-wide competition.

Up to 100 teams can sometimes take part in this exciting & enjoyable event.

The idea of the competition is for teams of 3 (from both Scouting and Guiding) to navigate around bases on Beacon Fell Country Park over a 3 hour period.

Each base earns the teams points which are totalled up to reveal the winners back at Waddecar campsite later in the afternoon. The bases are traditionally Scouting skill orientated, however in more recent years the organisers, the Waddecar Service Crew, has moved with the times and a few more modern practical skills have been thrown in.

Base examples include Knots, First Aid, Car Maintenance, Knife and Axe and DIY.

The weather on the day was perfect, after heavy rain the night before, and made for an all round enjoyable, interesting and absorbing event. Scouts from 1st Warton also took part in the challenge, having camped the night before at Waddecar campsite.
