Tom Helme

Thomas Wilson (Tom) Helme 1881 - 1949

Tom Helme was born in Lancaster 1881, son of Sir Norval Watson Helme, Alderman, J.P., of Springfield Hall (this building is now demolished and was in the Infirmary grounds), Manufacturer of Leather Cloth, Oil Baize & Varnish Joiner (1881 Census).

He was a part of the Local Association from 1911 and was the first DC to wear uniform. He was County Commissioner from 1938. His bequest enabled Littledale and Silverhelme campsites to be bought. He died in 1949 - a great benefactor to Scouting.
