Lancaster Sports Day

In athletic mood on Saturday afternoon, the Boy Scouts of the Lancaster and District Association held a successful sports meeting at Loxam’s Field, Aldcliffe Road. Competition was keen and interesting. Eight troops were represented, the 25th Lancaster (62nd Salford) carrying off the honours with a total of 47 points, the 20th Lancaster (Friends) being second with 24, and the 13th Lancaster third, with 15 points. Simultaneously, the Cubs were enjoying themselves in another part of the field, eight packs competing. The final result found the 21st Lancaster (Bowerham C.C.), winners of the Kennedy Cup, with 14 points, the Sports Shield going to the 15th Lancaster (Baptist), with nine points. County Commissioner T. W. Helme presented the trophies to the respective Sixers, Fred Shepherd (21), and S. Williams (15), on behalf of their Packs. The 20th, 23rd, and 24th, tied for third place, with eight points each.

The Judges and officials were: District Commissioner J. Dodds Drummond, Mr. H. Bennett, District Scoutmasters Tyson and Sharpe, Mr. A. Penny, Scout masters Randles, Underwood, Mendham, District Commissioner R. R. Wilkinson (Salford), for Scout events, and A.D.C. R. E. Wright, Cubmasters Davies and Stables, and Miss Kay for Cub events.

RESULTS.

The results were: Junior 100yds:Clulow (4): Clarke (25); Powell (25). Senior do.: Roberts, (21); Gardner (20); Foster (20). Junior 220: Clulow (4): Nicholas (25): Powell (25), Senior ditto: Hutton (20); Ellison (25) Gardner (13). Rovers and Scoutmasters 100yds: Randles (20); Brown (21); Capstick (13). Junior 440yds.: Quincey (25); Clarke (25); Jackson (27). Senior ditto: Dowthwaite (Caton); Gardner (20); Roberts (21). Rovers and Scoutmasters 220yds.: Randles (20); Capstick (13). Junior high jump: Powell (25); Olive (25); Ryan (25). Senior ditto: Roberts (21); Lund (13); Shannon (20). Junior obstacle: Thornborough (25); Vella (25): Spackman (13): Senior ditto: Howard (25); Woods (Carnforth); Evans (13): Relay: 20th Lancaster, 25th Lancaster. Chariot:  25th Lancaster (A) 25th Lancaster (B). Tug-of-war: 13th Lancaster; also Rovers beat Scoutmasters. May we remind all our friends that the swimming gala, usually a popular event, will be staged at Kingsway Baths, next Tuesday at 7 p.m. sharp.
