Northern Lights?

Lancaster Guardian 03 November 1950

The 13th Lancaster Rover Scouts spending their usual week-end at their “den”, near Pott Yeats saw what they believed to be northern Lights, at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. Mr. C. W. Whiteside, senior Scout Master, said that the lights lasted about two hours, and reminded him of the headlights of several cars shining over the hilltops.

From another source it is suggested that the lights were used in conjunction with the outbreak of fire at Barrow.
