Cubs Football Tournament 2010
On a chilly, February, Sunday, it was fantastic to see 82 Cubs representing 10 Groups in the annual Lonsdale District Cub Football Competition. Much thanks must go to Jonathan Liver (GSL 16th Lancaster) for organising it and all of the leaders and parents who turned out in great numbers to support their Packs.
12 teams entered, the draw was made and it was game on.
Support was fantastic for all Groups but none more so than 3rd Morecambe who boasted their own cheerleader.
Group stages gave way to quarter finals, then semi finals and before we knew it we had the finals. A great match for 3rd and 4th place between Hornby and 3rd Morecambe saw 3rd Morecambe win 3-0 and pick up their well deserved medals and certificate.
Which left the final to be hotly contested between 13th Lancaster and 16th Lancaster. A bruising encounter with both teams giving their all, eventually saw 13th Lancaster win 3-0. Every credit must go to the runners up: 16th Lancaster.
But to the victor go the spoils and much congratulation to our District Cub Football Champions: 13th Lancaster, whose captain collected their medals and certificate from Pat Armstrong (ADC Cubs).
And his team mates. One of whom seemed pre-occupied in booking his taxi ride home!
Once again, many thanks to all the Cubs, leaders, parents and helpers who made it a memorable and enjoyable day for all. The Groups who participated were: Bolton-le-Sands, Hornby, 3rd Morecambe, Caton Church, 13th Lancaster, 5th Lancaster, 33rd Lancaster, Slyne with Hest, 16th Lancaster and 23rd Lancaster.
