Kandersteg, Switzerland

16th Morecambe went to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) for their annual camp.

Travelling by minibuses they went via Eurotunnel, across France, staying overnight near Langres, before arriving at KISC for an 8 day stay in the magnificent Swiss Alps.

Highlights of the trip included alpine walks, international contacts, celebration of the Swiss National Day and visits to the summit of Niesen by funicular, to Oeschinensee (a mountain Lake) by chairlift, to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn, mountain biking and a train journey to the Jungfraujoch 'The Top of Europe'.

On their return through France they stayed in Chablis and Paris - visiting the Palace of Fontainebleau, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

The Troop took time out to go to the Quarry Cemetery in Montauban, Picardy in France to visit the grave of Herbert Dobson, the first Scout in Lancaster to gain the King's Scout Badge back in 1911.

Finally, after camping the last night at Gilwell they had an opportunity to tour the site.
