Stanley Joseph William Catterall was born 11 Dec 1910 in Lancaster the only son of Joseph & Sarah Elizabeth née Bell who married 21 Oct 1896 St Mary RC Church, Bolton le Sands.

The father, who was born in Blackpool, enlisted in the 3rd Battalion North Lanc Regiment 20 Jun 1886.

He joined 3rd Battalion King’s Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment 1 Sept 1886 at Lancaster being discharged 31 Aug 1908; No 1702 Colour Sergeant, to 23 Coulston Road, Lancaster. Exemplary conduct. Queen’s & King’s South African medals  – Clasps Cape Colony, Orange River Free State, Long service & Good Conduct medals.

In the 1901 census the family is living in Bowerham Barracks.

The 1911 census records them at 35 Blades Street Lancaster; Joe has 4 sisters.

In 1939 Joe is living at 5 Marsh Crescent, Torrisholme, Morecambe and Heysham. He is a Bank Clerk and Single.

He died 16 December 1951 in Lancaster leaving a widow Eva née Strong.
