Swimming Gala

BOY SCOUTS AT THE CABLE STREET BATHS.

The Boy Scouts of Lancaster and district held their annual swimming gala at the Cable Street Baths, on Monday, the Mayor (Mr. E. G. Smith) presiding.

Mr. J. Cole acted as starter and was ably assisted by Mr. R. E. Wright timekeeper, and Messrs. Sugden, Watkinson and Wildman as judges.

All the heats and finals were keenly contested, the dressing race especially. 

Mr. J. Owen Duke gave a very interesting display of trick swimming, and the large gathering of parents and friends was quick to appreciate the novelty of his performance.

The result of the competitions was as follows: – Three length race championship, 1  J. Atkinson (13th Lancaster troop), 2 Hartley (4th Lancaster), 3 R. A. Atkinson (13th Lancaster).  One length race (11-14 years) 1 McDonald (11th Lancaster), 2 Burt (4th Lancaster), 3 Howard (4th Lancaster).  Two lengths (14-17), 1 R. Atkinson (13th Lancaster), 2  Hurtley (13th Lancaster), 3 McDonald (11th Lancaster).  Dressing race, 1 J. Atkinson (13th Lancaster), 2 Naylon (4th Lancaster), 3 Coulthard (14th Lancaster).  Two breadths race, 1 Slinger (13th Lancaster), 2 Jackson (13th Lancaster), 3 Teasdale (14th Lancaster).  Squadron race, winning troop – 4th Lancaster Webster, Hartley, Naylon, Riley.  The points gained were as follows: 13th Lancaster troop 1st with 30 points ; 4th Lancaster 2nd, (15 points); 11th Lancaster 3rd, (six points); 14th Lancaster 4th, (3 points).

The Shield was presented by Mrs. F. G. T. Adams to Mr. G. F. W. Malham (Scoutmaster, 13th Lancaster troop) which had gained this four times.
