Troops from Lonsdale who attended the West Lancashire County Rally over the weekend of 11/13 May enjoyed good dry weather and a variety of interesting activities.

The County Scout Team ran a Patrol Leader’s Day on Saturday 18th February 2012 at Waddecar. The day was in the format of outdoor activities and discussion groups. Over 70 PL’s from all over West Lancashire attended on the day.

Congratulations go to members from 16th Morecambe on an excellent performance and on gaining 1st place in this prestigious County-wide competition.
Up to 100 teams can sometimes take part in this exciting & enjoyable event.
The idea of the competition is for teams of 3 (from both Scouting and Guiding) to navigate around bases on Beacon Fell Country Park over a 3 hour period.
Each base earns the teams points which are totalled up to reveal the winners back at Waddecar campsite later in the afternoon. The bases are traditionally Scouting skill orientated, …

Five Scouts from Lonsdale were among 72 Scouts from around West Lancashire who were presented with their Chief Scout’s Gold Award badge certificates by the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Mr. Peter Mileham in an impressive ceremony at the Executive Suite of Preston North End Football Club on the 7th November.
The Chief Scout’s Gold Award badge is the highest award available in the Scout Section.

This year’s competition was held over the weekend of 18th – 19th June at Littledale camp site.
4 troops entered teams. The weather was mixed with some showers but also sunny periods.
Troops arrived Friday and were allocated camp sites, and set up camp. Saturday was a day of activities prepared and run by the district, with leaders form various troop helping to co-ordinate the scouts building bridges. Various types where built, some for the first time by leaders as well as scouts, these included a cantilever bridge, a self supporting bridge, …

Last July saw Chief Scout Bear Grylls take 8 lucky Scouts on the adventure of a lifetime to his island off the coast of Wales.
 
One of the Scouts selected for 24 hours of survival skills, adventure and new friendship (pictured above) was from the 16th Morecambe. Bear said that he had been looking forward to the event all year and he couldn’t wait to meet the lucky eight.
Bear had also sent his congratulations to the 8 Scouts on gaining their Chief Scout’s Gold Award in fine style.

The Bowlander is a competition for teams of 4/7 Scouts, which tests hiking and map reading skills to a high standard. It is not a race, but an all-round assessment of skills and stamina on a pre-determined route.
Teams are required to plan a route, visiting a number of checkpoints, and have to arrive at each within a limited time window based on their estimated timings within their Route Plan.
