Won Four of Five District Trophies

A CHEQUE for £4 raised by the collection of salvage, was presented by Scoutmaster J. W. Beckett to District Commissioner Todd at the 4th Morecambe and Heysham Group of Sea Scouts and Cubs’ Parents’ night on Friday week.

There are 25 cubs on the Group register and 28 scouts. Reporting on progress during the year, Mr. Beckett revealed that the Group had won the District Indoor Sports Shield, the District Sports Cup, the Lupton Trophy for weekend camping, and the District Football Shield , so that four of the five district trophies were held by the Group. The cubs won the F. C. Wright cup for the third year in succession.

The Group had held a Christmas party, jumble sales, and salvage collections, and the Bob a Job week had raised £42-8-6.

One scout had been awarded the King’s Scout Certificate at Windsor in April and another was one of the three representatives of this district who attended the Austrian Jamboree.

A Rover crew and a Senior Patrol had been formed during the year, and the Group had celebrated its 21st birthday.

Future plans include competition in the National Soap Box Derby, the extension of boating activities, and a camp to be held in Ireland.

The programme on Friday included items by the Cubs and the presentation of the Totem pole by District Cub Master Miss M. Gray.

The Senior Patrol presented a sketch entitled “The Problem Child “and this was followed by scout displays.

Guest artists headed by Mr. K. Charlton, provided further entertainment, and the parents joined in games arranged for their benefit.

There was a display of the trophies gained by the Group and during the year, arranged by Mrs. Beckett.
