Investiture of Rover Squires, 4th Lancaster

Lancaster Guardian 14 January 1955

SCOUTING NOTES

FIFTEEN Rovers and Rover Squires of the 4th Lancaster Crew met last week at the residence of Cornwell Rover Scout Sam Cooke, for the investiture of Rover Squires.

The candidates, G. Smith and D. Vause were invested by Hon. Rover Leader R. E. Wright, and the sponsors were Rovers S. Fox and J. Lowther.

Group Scoutmaster W. Tyson presented the badges and welcomed them into the crew.

After the ceremony, five Senior Scouts, H. Williams, L. Cookson, R. Akister, P. Bateson and M. Airey were enrolled as Rover Squires.

FESTIVE WEEK-END

It has long been a tradition of the 4th Lancaster Crew to make the most possible use throughout the year of their “country residence” at Apple-house for Rover Scout training.

They report that last week-end was a relaxation in the form of a festive week-end, and at the time the Den Warden, J. R. Lowther wrote his note to me the crew had just finished a repast of pork, plum pudding, cheese, biscuits, with coffee, prepared and cooked by Rovers J. S. Fox, J. R. Lowther, and Rover Squire P. Bateson. From all accounts they had a very good time and were visited by Hon. Rover Leader R. E. Wright, who stayed to sample the dinner.

The crew send their best wishes to those of their Crew who return to their respective Universities this week. –AKELA
