The fields were bright with spring flowers, and best of all it was dry, as teams of cubs from Lancaster district took part in, and competed for, the annual Challenge Trophy.

The camp site was alive with cubs eagerly running from base to base, learning new skills, brushing up on old ones, and then showing their equally enthusiastic leaders how well they could put them into practice. The cubs spent 40 minutes at seven different skill bases, knots, tent pitching, map and compass, tracking and trails, emergency aid, simple cooking and food hygiene, and Law and Promise.

Overall winners of the day’s events were Caton Church pack. Runners-up were Hornby and Forton third. Presenting the trophy Assistant District Commissioner Pat Armstrong thanked the teams from the local Cub packs and the leaders who helped. She congratulated everyone on making the event a success.
