Nomination District Chair

It is the role of the District Commissioner to nominate a District Chairman for the approval of the District Scout Council (All Adult Members and Explorer Scouts) at its annual general meeting. However, as you know, following the passing of Peter Ellwood in January the District Chair role has become vacant, and whilst I have acted as District Chair in the short term, in these exceptional circumstances, it is now important that we make some interim arrangements so that the work of the District Executive (Board of Trustees) can continue effectively until the District AGM on the 3rd July.

I therefore write to make two proposals:

1) Rather than calling an Extraordinary General Meeting of the District Scout Council I have emailed out my nomination (below) for Acting District Chairman and propose to give a window of time for people to raise any concerns. When this window of time has passed either a new Acting District Chair will be confirmed or an extraordinary general meeting of the District Scout Council will be called to address any concerns.

2) My nomination is for Terry Bond to become Acting District Chair, to join and co-ordinate the work of the District Executive until July. During that time Terry would not have voting rights on the District Executive Committee. Terry stood down as District Chair in July after 5 years, he knows the role, the challenges the District faces and will be able to provide stability and direction to the District Executive at a crucial time, as we prepare to adopt our Vision 2018 strategy.

Should you have any concerns, either with the nomination, or the process that I am proposing then please contact me in writing no later than the 24th February.

Best Wishes,
Craig Dewar
