Scouting in Lonsdale is a modern, forward looking, co-educational youth movement for the 21st Century.  With over 1200 members across the District led by a dedicated team of adults, Scouting continues to offer a progressive programme of  interesting, exciting and challenging activities to young people in the 6 - 25 year old age range.

Approximately 80% of young people across the District live less than fifteen minutes drive from their nearest Scout Group - so there will be a Scout Group close to YOU.

Lonsdale Scout Leaders administer first aid at Gaping Ghyll incident

Four Scout Leaders from Lonsdale District, Andrew Holland, Rachel Platt, Paul Geddes and Paul Burrows had their first aid training tested on a trip caving at Gaping Ghyll. Whilst waiting to descend into the Ghyll a stray rock dislodged by kids playing at the top of the banking rolled down and hit a young lady who was sitting nearby and knocked her out cold.

As the local caving club went to radio for help the leaders stepped in to give first aid. Rachel took control with the casualty as the rest of the leaders helped her as and when needed. As the Clapham cave rescue arrived they left Rachel in control as they got the equipment ready to transport the casualty to the Yorkshire  air ambulance that was en route. To our surprise, when the helicopter arrived out jumped a BBC TV film crew. After a quick interview with Paul Geddes and the casualty being taken to the helicopter  and safely on her way to hospital, the group descended into Gaping Ghyll for an afternoon of caving.
