Awards to 4th Morecambe Scouts and Cubs

Friday night’s meeting of the 4th Morecambe and Heysham Sea Scouts took the form of a promotion ceremony for Wolf Cubs and Scouts including awards of First and Second Class Scout badges and Proficiency badges.

The event, the first of its kind for some time in the troop, was well attended by parents and friends.  Miss Gray, District Cub Master, conducted the investiture of the cubs.  The proficiency badges were bestowed by the Group Scoutmaster, Mr. F. Driver.

Welcoming the guests the Scoutmaster, Mr. J.W. Beckett, spoke of the achievements of the troop during the past few months pointing out that the awards gave evidence of hard work and enthusiasm of the boys.

Two scouts had gained first class badges, another two second class badges, and two senior scouts had recently been awarded the King’s Scout Badge.  Six scouts and three wolf cubs had been successful in gaining proficiency badges in various subjects.

At the close of the ceremony, a “Camp Fire” programme of scout songs was arranged and parents and friends joined in.

Presentations were made to the following: First-class scouts, V. Eastwood, D. Ashworth; second class, J. Harral, W. Beckitt; Tenderfoot badges, M. Greenhalgh, A. Beaumont, D. Baxter, B. Carlyle, K. Beaumont, B. Melmore.  Service stars, one year, W. Beckitt, J Harral, D. Ashworth, W. Dury; second year, A. Bell, P. Bridgewater, J. Palmer; three years, J. Lumley, B. Wilkinson.  Proficiency badges (artist), P Bridgewater, J. Harral; (Jobmen); A. Bell, J. Harral; (Lifesaver);  D. Ashworth.  Cubs: Tenderfoot, C. Knowles, J. Oliver, D. Morton.  Team player, P. Leeming; home craft and leaping wolf,  M. Hodgson.  The three cubs promoted to Scouts were M. Hodgson, T. Downing and J. Frankland.
