GSL Appointment, 35th Lancaster

Monday, 29 July 2013

Dear All,

Re: Appointment of a Group Scout Leader – 35th Lancaster

I am delighted to inform you that I have appointed Mandy Sweet as the Group Scout Leader at 35th Lancaster Scout Group following an open nomination search process. Mandy will be known to all of you as the Cub Scout Leader and through her long involvement with the group, which I believe started when she was a parent of children in the group – they are now becoming section leaders! Mandy’s passion for Scouting, her enthusiasm and dedication mean that she is well placed to lead the group and I’d like to thank her for taking on this important role.

I’d also like to thank all the leaders for their work over the past few months which has led to the recruitment of more adults and young people and has ensured that 35th Lancaster is in a great position to move forward. To that end Mandy and I have agreed some objectives to guide her work in the coming months:

• Review the training needs of all adults in the group, and support them through the appropriate training.
• Mandy to complete her MSS (GSL) Training
• Hold a Group AGM and for a new Group Executive Committee
• Hold regular Group Leaders meetings (separately from the Group Executive Committee)

I will be working with Mandy in the coming weeks to discuss ways in which the District can support in these areas.. 35th Lancaster is in a strong position, with opportunities to improve your headquarters, grow your membership, recruit new adults and offer more opportunities to the young people of Skerton – I’ve really enjoyed working with the group and I am excited about what the future holds and I’d like to remind you that the District are committed to supporting the group in any way that we can.

Finally, I’d like to wish you all a happy, wonderful, and well-earned summer break.

Yours in Scouting,

Craig Dewar
District Commissioner
