Scouts honour local couple

A high Scout award has been made to Mrs. Val Vose, of Brendjean Road, Morecambe, for 25 years’ distinguished work for the movement.

Mrs. Vose has been awarded the Silver Acorn in the St. George’s Day honours list and will join other winners in the national celebrations at Windsor Castle on April 20.

She started as a Cub Scout leader in St. Helens in 1959 and moved to the 11th Morecambe (Parish Church) Scout Group in 1972.

Mrs. Vose works in the offices of the College of Further Education and has served as secretary of the Pack Scouters meetings and the Executive Committee. When Mr. Maurice Miller died in 1983, she took over as Group Scout Leader.

Her husband has won an award as well. He has led the Parish Church Scout Group since 1972, after earlier service in St. Helens, and is to receive a Medal of Merit for his outstanding work. –
