5th Wolf Cubs win Shield
BEFORE a large crowd, which braved the showers at Acrelands, Lancaster, on Saturday, the 5th Lancaster pack (St. Peter’s Cathedral), comfortably won the Lancaster and District Wolf Cub Football League championship shield by defeating 31st Lancaster pack (St. Luke’s Church) by eight goals to nil.
Scorers for the winners who held command almost throughout the game were F. McCabe (3), V. Hewson, P. Geldard, G. Foy, R. Gallagher and S. McNamara.
The teams were: –
5th Lancaster B. Kerr, M. Hanagan, S. McNamara, T. Fitzgerald, R. Kelly, R. Gallagher, V. Hewson, P. Geldard, F. McCabe, G. Foy, H. McClorry.
31st Lancaster R. Winn, N. Smith, C. Appleton, A. Driver, I. Price, R. Dawes, G. Bisset, L. Stollard, J. Hillard, C. Mitchell and K. Raffaelli.
Referee was Mr. W. Horman of the Lancaster and Morecambe Society of Referees and linesmen were Messrs. R. Carney and W. Stirzacker.
PRESENTATIONS.
After the match the shield was presented to the winning team by Mr. R. Weir and the silver cup to the runners-up by Mr. A. Huck, vice-chairman of the Lancaster Boy Scout Association. Silver medals will be presented to each player at the celebration party to be held tomorrow, Saturday, at the Lancaster Red Rose Boys’ Club, who have placed their premises at the league’s disposal for this event. The presentations will be made by the District Commissioner.
Arrangements for the final and for the administration of the league in its successful first season were conducted by a sub committee with Mr. F. R. Hayton chairman, Mr. J. I. Saunders, secretary Mr. Chas Hill, assistant secretary and Messrs. R. Gunn and R. Johnson.
Representatives of the clubs who assisted in the arrangements for the final word G.S.M. Mr. B. J. Toole and C.M. Miss P. Walsh 16th Lancaster and S.M. J. W. A. Nicholson, C.M. Mr. D. Kitchener and A.C.M. Mr. H. Kenyon 31st Lancaster.
During the game Bissett the St. Luke’s outside right was injured and Wright was brought in as deputy.
