Carnforth Rover Crew

Morecambe Guardian 22 May 1931:-

A “Guardian” representative blundered into a Rover gathering on Monday, which was being held amidst blossom-laden trees in the shadow of Warton Cragg. An investiture ceremony had evidently taken place, and a hearty invitation was extended to partake in the camp supper which followed.  The recently formed “First Carnforth Rover Crew” is one which any officer could be proud of, and the discussion on the arrangements for attending the big camp at Dalton Hall, on Saturday,  was carried on in a spirit of real fellowship.

Lancaster Guardian 03 September 1937:-

In connection with the 1st Carnforth Scout Troop a Rover Crew for youths over 17 years of age has been formed and also a Scout Senior Patrol for those over school age up to 17 years, and weekly meetings will be held each Tuesday and Wednesday at the Scout headquarters.  The meetings are under the direction of the Group Scoutmaster S. T. Whalan and Assistants E. Wright, J. Edgar, and J. Whelpton.  The following selections have been made from the members: Rover mates, T. Foxcroft and M. K. Whalan; second Rover mates, K. Keenan and G. Rawstron; Rover secretary and treasurer, I. Howarth; senior patrol leader, E. Just; second patrol leader, J. Lowthwaite .  The attendances were extremely good at the meetings already held.  As numbers will have to be limited any desirous of joining must make early application.

Carnforth Investiture

A pleasing ceremony took place at the Headquarters of the 1st Carnforth Boy Scout Troops on Sunday afternoon in the form of their first Rover Investiture.  The service was performed by Rover Leader E. Wright, whilst the District Commissioner, Alderman T. W. Helme, of Springfield Hall, was present and officiated at the initiation.  Rover Mate J. Nicholson, of the 13th Lancaster Rover Crew, acted with Rover S. T. Whalan as sponsors.  Those initiated were Rover Squire J. T. Edgar (ASM), Rover Mates K. Keenan and H. Emley and Seconds E. Russell and A. Atkinson.

At the close of the service Mr. S. T. Whalan was presented with his warrant as Group Scoutmaster for the Troop for the District Commissioner.
